A study by the University of Arizona, according to the Fox news website, states that these carts are even dirtier than a public toilet. In fact, there are more than a million germs in the handle alone.
The study of the University of Arizona corroborates other studies previously done in Austria, North Korea and Spain, and assures that 72 percent of the shopping carts have coliform bacteria originating from the feces and associated with bad sanitary conditions.
The study goes further and compares this data with pollution levels in public facilities. The conclusion is clear: supermarket carts have much higher contamination levels than bathrooms.
